Pianist and composer Victor Xie will headline the Nov 8 PIANO CITY Silicon Valley concert at the beautiful Qualia Contemporary Art in Downtown Palo Alto, performing a jazz program with his performing partner. A free improviser and contemporary music creator, Victor bridges genres from Baroque and Classical to experimental jazz, continually redefining piano artistry.
Victor is a composer of contemporary concert music and free improvisor. His musical performances range from all-Baroque to Contemporary-Classical programs, to Jazz, free improvisation, silent-film improvisation and more.
In December of 2024, Victor curated, composed for, and performed in a concert in tandem with the “Our Body Through Our Eyes” exhibit at Qualia Contemporary Art. He has also taken experimental performance and free jazz to artistic spaces Barsky Art Gallery, and the Mason Civic League Center in Hoboken in 2023-2024. In Spring of 2023 at the Dimenna Center, NYC, Triptych premiered his compositions alongside other emerging composers. Victor has performed jazz alongside the Sylvie Courvoisier ensemble and the Black Artists Unified Band at the New School. In Spring of 2021, Victor won Piano Honors at New England Conservatory performing his own compositions. He is a winner of numerous solo and concerto competitions, including the Foundation for Chinese Performing Arts Concerto Competition, where he performed Saint-Saëns Concerto no.2 with the Mercury Orchestra at Sanders Theatre, Harvard, and the California Youth Symphony Concerto Competition, performing in Cabot College.
Victor Xie completed his BM in piano performance with Prof. Alexander Korsantia and Mr. Victor Rosenbaum at the New England Conservatory of Music. He studied Composition briefly with Prof. Alla Cohen and John Heiss in 2020. He recently graduated in 2023 with a MM in Composition under the instruction of Prof. Huang Ruo and Prof. Lowell Liebermann at Mannes School of Music.
